The Banqueting House - Whitehall SW1A 2ER, is all that remains of Whitehall Palace - the main London residence of Kings and Queens in the 16th and 17th centuries. Moderate charge.

British Museum-Established 1753   - WC1B 3DG. You will need several visits if you want to see it all - the collections span two million years - or you can opt for a tour of the highlights. Free, except for special exibitions.

Buckingham Palace - the Queen's Home  The official residence of the monarch. (See details of Palace opening times). Free to watch the Changing of the Guard.

Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace  Ceremony Guard changing takes place at Buckingham Palace and at Horseguards, Whitehall. Free to watch.

Covent Garden - a London Highlight WC2 - Covent Garden Market, Free street theatre, stalls and restaurants all combine to make this area a popular venue for tourists and Londoners. Free to stroll around and soak up the atmosphere.

Globe Theatre and Exibition SE1 9DT. Shakespeare's Globe is reconstructed close to the original theatre. Moderate charge for exhibition.

Greenwich - London Highlight -   Historic buildings, an extensive royal park - Greenwich is a gem and has it all. The park and many historic buildings are free to visit.

National Portrait Gallery, London WC2H OHE. One of London's most popular museums and the most comprehensive collection of its kind in the world. Free.

Science Museum SW7 2DD. 200,000 exhibits keep visitors interested in this cutting-edge museum. Free to visit.

Somerset House WC2R 1LA. This former palace is home to three major art collections. The house is free to visit but there is a charge to see the collections

Tate Britain SW1P 4RG. The finest collection of British art from 1500. Free to see except special excibitions. Connected by high-speed boat to the Tate Modern

Tate Modern SE1 9TG. Home of the national collection of post-1900 art and free except for special exhibitions.

Tower of London - London Highlight EC3N 4AB. One of London's most famous and popular tourist destinations. Yes, there is a charge but the Tower of London is unmissable.

Trafalgar Square Spend some time in this famous square - a delightful place to watch the world go by and a great meeting-up point!

Victoria and Albert Museum SW7 2RL. Late-opening evenings and 145 superb galleries - a magical place and its free to visit.

Wallace Collection W1M 6BN. An opulant collection of fine and applied art - Titian, Rubens and Rembrandt are just a few of the artists represented in this remarkable collection. Free to visit.
