The Wallace Collection

The Wallace Collection is housed in a sumptuous building begun in 1776 by the 4th Duke of Manchester which later passed to the Hertford family. It was established from the private collection of Sir Richard Wallace who added many new works to his father's existing collection. It was bequeathed to the nation in 1897.
The collection includes Renaissance and medieval paintings and has paintings by such masters of the Flemish and Dutch schools as Rubens, Rembrandt and Van Dyck. There are portraits by Gainsborough and Reynolds.
One of the highlights of the collection is the Laughing Cavalier by Frans Hals and others include Titian's Perseus and Andromeda and Rembrandt's Titus.
You can also find a superb collection of eighteenth-century French paintings, sculpture by Houdon and Roubiliac, porcelain and furniture,including Limoges enamels, maiolica, glass and bronzes as well as the fine array of European arms and armour.
There are daily free tours help the visitor to make the most of this diverse and fascinating collection.
