The Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton took place on, April 29th, 2011, at Westminster Abbey.
the bride's wedding gown was created by Alexander McQueen designer, Sarah Burton - the train of the dress measured 8ft 8ins (2m 70cm and Kate's ''something borrowed'' was the 1936 Cartier tiara, loaned to her by the Queen. 

Kate Middleton arrived at Westminster Abbey in a Rolls Royce Phantom VI, which had been presented to the Queen for her silver jubilee while Prince William travelled in a 20.4ft (6.22m) long Bentley.
After the royal wedding service, the 10 bells of the 1,000 year-old Abbey were rung in a "full peal" which lasted more than three hours.

Prince William arrived at Westminster Abbey dressed in the red tunic of the Irish Guards - he wore the blue Order of the Garter sash with his RAF wings also on display. Prince William flies as part of the RAF's search and rescue team and is based on the Isle of Anglesey.

On the morning of the royal wedding, Buckingham Palace said in a statement : "The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom on Prince William of Wales.
"His titles will be Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus. Kate Middleton has now become H.R.H. the Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince Charles lent the newly married royal couple his vintage Aston Martin Volante sports car for the short journey from Buckingham Palace to Clarence House after the Private afternoon reception hosted by the Queen.
Prince William drove his new bride in the open-topped, blue convertible which had been decorated with bunting, balloons and a 'Ju5t Wed' license plate. The royal bride and groom were returning to Clarence House for a rest before returning to Buckingham Palace for a private evening reception hosted by Prince Charles.

• After having lessons and getting make-up tips from makeup artist Arabella Preston, Catherine Middleton chose the D.I.Y. route and did her own make-up for her royal wedding.

• Kate Middleton chose to wear her hair in loose curls, complemented by the Cartier tiara, loaned to her by the Queen.

• On her marriage Catherine Middleton became HRH Princess William Arthur Philip Louis, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus. As she was not born into the Royal Family, she does not automatically become a Princess on her marriage but assumes her husband's titles. Although, her late mother-in-law, Diana became known as Princess Diana - this was not her legal title; it was HRH Princess Charles, Princess of Wales during her marriage to Prince Charles - after her divorce she was styled as Diana, Princess of Wales.

• The first Royal Wedding took place in Westminster Abbey on the 11 November 1100 - the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton is the sixteenth royal wedding to take place in the historic abbey. The Queen, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne and the groom's great-grandfather, George VI were also married there.

• Prince William and Kate Middleton wrote their own prayer to be read at their wedding service.

• Sandringham Estate and Windsor Great Park provided many of the flowers used in the displays for the big day but Westminster Abbey was also decorated with eight 20ft-high trees.

• William and Catherine were carried from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace for the reception in the 1902 state Landau which was used by Charles and Diana on their wedding day 30 years ago.

•  A Lancaster, Spitfire and a Hurricane as well as two Tornado and two Typhoon fast jets took part in the flypast, watched by the new bride and groom and the rest of the royal family from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

• As the royal couple drove to Clarence House from the Buckingham Palace wedding reception - the groom got a wonderful surprise. Prince William is a search and rescue helicopter pilot and he was delighted by the sight of the yellow RAF Sea King rescue helicopter hovering above them, as they drove down the Mall.

• The newly-created Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will continue to live in Anglesey where the groom is based in the RAF but there has been speculation that Kensington Palace may become their future home - the palace has happy memories for Prince William for it was his mother's home and where he spent the years of his childhood.
